Learn how to make a magic ring (mr) step by step, with pictures and descriptions.
This is how you start almost all amigurumis and solid shapes (balls, limbs, etc.). It allows you to start a work invisibly, without leaving a hole at its base. This is not the case when you start with a chain that you close, and crochet inside: you see a hole forming.

Magic ring
You can either do it with 1 loop or with two loops. I usually do it with two loops. Take your yarn, and wrap it three times around your finger, like this.
Crochet following the instructions of your pattern. These are generally single crochet. Make 6 single crochet stitches (sc): to do this, insert the hook into the magic circle.
Close the magic ring. Take one of the two yarns, and pull lightly to find the middle one.
Then, make a single crochet stitch in your first stitch if you are crocheting in a spiral, otherwise make a slip stitch in your first stitch if you are crocheting in the rounds. Here I crocheted a stitch in the first stitch of the magic circle, so I crocheted in a spiral.
