Learn how to make a half double crochet (hdc) step by step, with pictures and descriptions.

The half double crochet (hdc), or half treble in UK (htr) is a classic crochet stitch. It is used to crochet clothes (sweaters, scarves) or to make some amigurumis.

There are two ways to make rows with half double crochets. One will leave holes on the sides (left photo) while the other will be more regular (right photo). Preferring the rendering on the right, we will crochet in this way. At the end of each row, you only need to make one chain stitch instead of the usual two.
